CAVS FALL SHORT IN NATIONAL FINAL
Champlain St. Lambert couldn't get the ultimate prize, but silver still shines brightly.
The Cavaliers lost 79-67 to Calgary's Mount Royal Cougars at the CCAA National Championships in Prince George, B.C.
The Quebec provincial champs trailed 39-35 at the half and couldn't close the gap, falling further behind in the third quarter.  Mount Royal outscored Champlain 23-14 in the third.
The Cavaliers mounted a comeback bid in the fourth but Cougars guard Stephen Trinidad quashed the rally, hitting a trey to make it 70-59 with 4:35 left.
Three straight Cougars baskets capped a 9-0 run that closed out the Cavaliers.
Cavs guard Adam Chmielewski led all scorers with 26 points while fellow CEGEP All-Star Niko Cochran (pictured right) closed out his career with 22 points.
Poor shooting might have doomed the Cavs -- they shot 18-for-58 from the field.

ROAD TO THE FINAL

The Cavs got to the finals by beating the 5th-ranked UBC-Okanagan Heat in the first round, 73-66. Then they upset #1-ranked Mount Saint Vincent in the semi-finals by a lopsided score of 74-53.

GREAT YEAR

The Cavaliers capped another great season under Head Coach John Dangelas.
His teams have now won medals at the Nationals in three of the last four years, taking bronze in 2006 and another Nationals bronze on their home floor last year.
Earlier this month Champlain won their second Provincial Championship and sixth straight provincials medal overall.
Coach Dangelas also has unrivalled success as a recruiter of talent and producer of graduates and successful ball players.
In the past 12 years he has sent dozens of players to the CIS and the NCAA.
