TWO QUEBECERS
ON CADET WOMEN'S TEAM |
|
Two Quebecers will don the red and white for the first-ever Cadette
(Midget) Women's National Team that will vy this summer for a spot in next
year's the FIBA World championships.
Nirra Fields and Alexandra Rusk made the cut at
the National tryout camp.
Rusk is a towering 6-3 centre from Baie d'Urfe who stars for
John Rennie High School and the West Island Lakers.
Fields, a 5-7 guard, is from Lachine and plays for D.J.
Sports of the Metropolitan Montreal Basketball League. She was the league's
top scorer and made the all-star team this past season.
Fields broke out last year at the Canadian U-15
Championships, averaging 18.8 ppg and grabbing Most Valuable Player honours
at the tender age of 14.

The Cadette team's road to the Worlds begins on Aug. 5, when
they travel to Mexico City for the FIBA Americas U16 World Championship
Qualification Tournament for Women.
Eight countries will compete, including Canada, the U.S.,
Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
The top three teams qualify for the FIBA U17 World
Championship for Women, which will be held in July 2010 in France. |
