Lowdown

CEGEP AAA Coach of the Year Wayne Yearwood ushered in the post-Olga Hrycak era in a hurry, winning his first 10 games last year for a winning streak that would have impressed his legendary predecessor.

Dawson was a well-oiled machine in the first half of the season, reaching the #1 spot in the country in January before fading at the finish and ending up fourth at the provincials.

But Coach Yearwood's rookie campaign sent a message to anyone who would suggest it was impossible to follow in Olga's footsteps.

Guards

With quarterback Jeff Dosado off to Division II, crafty combo guard Chris Warner gets his day in the sun.

Warner was one of the best players in the province by last March, and he proved it with a selection to the provincials All-Star team. Expect him to follow up with a regular-season All-Star spot.

The experience drops off after Warner, but CPEQ product Didier Muhire and Brookwood alum Adrian Hynes-Guery have loads of talent.

Forwards

In one of the surprises of the summer, Second Team CEGEP AAA All-Star Luckern Dieu came back for a fourth season.

He had a great summer for Brookwood's AAU squad, and he instantly makes Dawson a contender for the provincial championship.

Matt Pellerin and Desmond Murphy have lots of size and are much improved. Returning wing Matt Thornhill's solid rookie campaign was cut short by a serious ankle injury. He's a great shooter.

Vanier transfer Jaime Robinson is one to watch. He looked good in summer games and has length, athleticism and perimeter skills. Being 6-5 doesn't hurt, either.

Coach: Wayne Yearwood, 2nd year.

2003-2004:  14-2. 2nd place. Lost to Montmorency in provincial bronze-medal game.

Jaime Robinson is an impact transfer.

Coach Yearwood says:

"We're going to be pretty good. It's all in the preparation. On paper means nothing, it's all about what they do on the floor. You can't sit back on your laurels -- you've got to produce."
